Anonymous asked: How's the book coming? ^^; you wrote somewhere that you were aiming for an early April release, but I'm guessing the formatting took control of your timeline or something?

No, it’s more like the wave of crippling self-doubt came and crushed me. So I put the book aside and am waiting for it to pass because I was getting very depressed. I am slowly getting better, I am just a perfectionist, and have been working on this for so long I am near obsessive on it. I needed a little break because I was getting to the point of IT IS HORRIBLE YOU NEED TO REWRITE IT AAAAALL and I don’t have the energy to rewrite it again. So.

Anonymous asked: I'm so excited for your book! :D I loved your suju fic. Do you think you'll ever write suju again, even in a different verse?

I may! I don’t want to say a definite either way but it is possible ^^

Anonymous asked: I might sound stupid but I just came across your LJ today. Is this 'gravity' you're talking about, that Gravity fanfiction, Super Junior? :D Or it's different? So, what about the sequel Phoenix?

You don’t sound stupid ^^ It started out as the SJ fanfiction, but once I finished writing it I realized that if I put some serious effort into rewriting it, it would be a pretty cool original novel. So it’s not the same, but that is where it started.

Phoenix the fic is discontinued, but I am using some of its plotline in the third Gravity book, as well as ~other things~ so. Yeah.

Ela fends off productivity by making a post for her flock!

I got a long message in my inbox a while ago. It was entirely in Polish, and one of my followers was kind enough to translate it for me. It ended up being a long, in depth question about many aspects of writing. I typed up a doubly long response, and when I went to send it, this person had their privacy settings set so I couldn’t message them back. I have decided that the questions were interesting enough, and my response thought out enough, that some people might be interested in reading them, so I am going to post my response in full here (it also took me forever to write up, and I didn’t want all that effort to go for naught). Her questions, paraphrased and bulleted are as follows:

Explain the path of your career - how did you start, did you have a life mentor, what inspired you.
Tell me what you’ve achieved thanks to that. I’m not asking about visible effects, rather about your inner development, satisfaction.
Why do many young people restrain themselves and hide their work in drawers? And the other way around, what persuades particular groups to show their pieces online?
Do you prefer to write for the readers, critics or for your own fulfillment?
Can anonymous criticism bring something positive, as a way to truly check your writing skills?
The main point of my task is the demonstration of alternative publication means - many restrain to hiding their pieces drawers and the time of its “ripening” seems way too long. I wanted to show that there are young people who aren’t afraid of taking one step further, affirm their conviction that their output is somehow worthy and pass it to the correction. I have a friend which after publishing house’s rejection lost the whole idea of writing his own book. Printing on one’s own takes too much money and moreover he didn’t believe in the constructive anonymous criticism - he didn’t upload his work on the blog. How did it all look in your case? How did you come to the conclusion that publishing through ebooks is the right choice?

Anonymous asked: Hello ! I hope your book will be published. It looks pretty interesting. When I first read the Gravity story on your LJ, I thought, "too bad it's only fanfiction". Since I don't even like this kind of stuff, I was a little bit disappointed because there was an amazing plot and it needed more ! So I'm happy to see that you wrote the story with original characters. But, to be published, what do you have to do ?

Well, I am self-publishing so I… don’t have to do much, per se? It’s not like with normal publishing, where I’d have to attract an agent and then a publishing house, and then have them edit my book/tear it to pieces blah blah. But because I am self-publishing I haven’t got a team of professionals at my back, so I have to do most of the grunt work as well as the writing :|

I am going through an online self-publishing company called Createspace, which is affiliated with Amazon.com. I write the book, format it, design the covers and spine, then I upload it all to the site. I put in the necessary info, and then once it’s done, I order a proof copy. Once I get it I inspect it for any errors, and if it’s good to go I put it up for sale on Createspace and Amazon, so anyone who wants a copy can order it. When someone orders a copy, Createspace prints one up just for them, and then ships it out, which is why Createspace is free. There are a lot of companies out there who “self-publish” but really they just take thousands of dollars off the writer, print up 100-500 copies of their book, then go “there, you’re published now.” :| these are scam companies, don’t fall for them!

The main drawback to self-publishing is that my audience isn’t as wide, because my book will only be available online, and not in stores. So it falls on me, and my readers, to spread the word. Mostly my readers. Word of mouth is really all I have. I am counting on you all ;A; but in all honesty I don’t mind having a smaller audience. I never expected to sell thousands of copies and make millions of the dollars!!!!

I just want to tell stories and bring people joy through them.

So yes, that is what I have to do for publishing ;v; I know plenty about the traditional publishing method too but mrrgh. I have always preferred to take things into my own hands. And at this rate I will be publishing by the end of this month/beginning of April \o/
