Well, I am self-publishing so I… don’t have to do much, per se? It’s not like with normal publishing, where I’d have to attract an agent and then a publishing house, and then have them edit my book/tear it to pieces blah blah. But because I am self-publishing I haven’t got a team of professionals at my back, so I have to do most of the grunt work as well as the writing :|
I am going through an online self-publishing company called Createspace, which is affiliated with Amazon.com. I write the book, format it, design the covers and spine, then I upload it all to the site. I put in the necessary info, and then once it’s done, I order a proof copy. Once I get it I inspect it for any errors, and if it’s good to go I put it up for sale on Createspace and Amazon, so anyone who wants a copy can order it. When someone orders a copy, Createspace prints one up just for them, and then ships it out, which is why Createspace is free. There are a lot of companies out there who “self-publish” but really they just take thousands of dollars off the writer, print up 100-500 copies of their book, then go “there, you’re published now.” :| these are scam companies, don’t fall for them!
The main drawback to self-publishing is that my audience isn’t as wide, because my book will only be available online, and not in stores. So it falls on me, and my readers, to spread the word. Mostly my readers. Word of mouth is really all I have. I am counting on you all ;A; but in all honesty I don’t mind having a smaller audience. I never expected to sell thousands of copies and make millions of the dollars!!!!
I just want to tell stories and bring people joy through them.
So yes, that is what I have to do for publishing ;v; I know plenty about the traditional publishing method too but mrrgh. I have always preferred to take things into my own hands. And at this rate I will be publishing by the end of this month/beginning of April \o/
